For my first 3-D experiment I decided to make a flower from the book Winter Wonders, edited by Jennifer Rounds and Catherine Comyns. I borrowed my copy from the local library. What makes this book unusual is that Japanese quilters designed all the projects.
I have to wonder if something got lost in the translation though. The small yellow circle was supposed to be the flower center. No way would I ever be able to gather the petals tight enough to use something that small. That leaves me experimenting with other possible centers.
I already have a list of design changes I want to try on the next flower. I’ll also change construction techniques to streamline the process. I feel like I’ve messed with this little flower all week. There has to be a faster way.
More to come as the experiment continues.
