3D Flower Version Two

I finished the second flower using my own variations on the original pattern and I’m so excited because it turned out just like I pictured it.

                3D flower #2

In the first flower, the directions called for a square of fabric folded over twice, basically forming a quarter square triangle.  Each petal was four layers of fabric thick, which made it hard to gather.

For the second flower, I cut a smaller square, folded it in half with right sides together to form a triangle, sewed one side and turned it right side out.  I got the finished edges without the bulk.  I still wanted the petals to have some body, so I put jewelry wire inside each one before I sewed them all together.  I cut my construction time by 2/3 and I can shape the petals however I want.  How cool is that?

I haven’t decided what to try next.  Another flower with different shaped petals, or maybe a small animal?  The possibilities are endless.
