Bloomin’ in February

My Christmas cactus is blooming for the first time since my husband got it for me three Christmases ago.

I don’t remember the blooms being this big last time.  Wish I knew what I did to get it to bloom so that next year I could do it again.

My always blooms this time of year. It is really going crazy since I put it in my garden window over my kitchen sink. I think because it sticks out so much it is cold in there and that’s what makes it bloom. It’s the same color too. I do fertilize it twice a year. Once in the spring and once in the fall. But I’m not altogether sure that does anything.

My neighbor with the green thumb gave me two offshoots of her cacti. She told me to put them in subdued light with cooler temperature around October/November, then bring them out near Christmas. I did that, but mine didn’t bloom then and they’re not blooming now 😦 And, of course, hers bloomed profusely right at Christmas! BUT–my two African violets are loaded with blooms 🙂
