Rug Update

Over the last month I’ve been looking over the patterns in Twenty Easy Machine Made Rugs by Jackie Dodson and pinning together small samples to see how the patterns worked with quilting fabric.  Most of the patterns in the book use double knit, denim or wool.  I don’t have much yardage of any of those fabrics, and the whole point is to use what I have.

Although I can make the patterns work with the fabric I have, I can’t do that and get the results I want.  I want a nice thick rug that will hold up over time and keep my feet warm.  I just couldn’t get there with cotton.

So it’s back to the drawing board to look over some different techniques and make up a few more samples.  I haven’t given up.  I just need to head in a new direction.  I’m finding You Tube contains a wealth of rug making tutorials.  I’m not one to sit around and watch videos, so I’ll have to check them out in small doses.

I’m also playing around with a Cotton Theory rug pattern.  I’m working off my memory of a sample because I don’t have the pattern.

More to come…….
