June Short List

Another respectable month in May. I finished one UFO and one new project for a total of two UFOs and five new projects this year. That’s less than I hoped to finish by now, but more than I would have finished without the list.
In case you missed the prior posts, the Short List is something old (UFO), something new, something painted, something abstract and a handwork project.
Something Old: The still life from the Esterita Austin class. I have the thread, decided on a quilting design and basted the quilt.

Something new: I chose a sketch out of my idea notebook to make into a quilt. For lack of a better name, I refer to it as “the church quilt”. It’s a long story, but the design has nothing to do with a church nor does it contain anything you’d find in a church. It’s just one of those weird things that makes sense to me.
Painting/Dyeing: Layering color. I found some inspiration in the paintings of Gerhard Richter. I’m ready to baste this one.

Abstract: The first Playtime method is called Hopscotch. Think of little blocks of fabric sewn into little logs of fabric with funky angles on both the logs and the blocks. Last month I decided to drop this category and was sorry I didn’t delete it from the May Short List. Now I feel that it has a style similar to The Church Quilt and I can see myself working on these two at the same time. It stays.
Handwork: The Craftsy hand appliqué class project. I’m close to finishing the appliqué on the second block.

I hope to finish two quilts this month and make progress on another. We have a lot of other things going which might get in the way though. Whatever happens it’s all good.
