Sunday Stash January 14, 2018

No fabric in or out this week. Because I started all new projects at the beginning of the year it will take time to see a finish.
I’m focusing on projects that are part of monthly goal challenges. This week I finished the applique on the bouquet quilt and wanted to start the pieced borders. The block size needed adjusted and I had to find the EQ file.
I planned to do that yesterday afternoon, but I wanted to get the kitchen clean first. Some of my best insights come when I’m cleaning the kitchen. So I’m putting dishes away and realize the border I designed years ago doesn’t work at all. It’s too wide for the quilt. That’s OK, I can make it narrower.
It’s still too wide. I mocked it up and it was also too busy. Then I did some research in a quilt book on borders and in Google images. I saw some ideas that might work and mocked those up. Here’s what I decided to do, still in the audition phase.

That border looks just right for the bouquet.

  2. Kate says:

The blue really picks up the ribbon in the block. It’s going to be a beautiful finish.

  3. Susan T says:

What a good border choice for such a pretty applique block.

I used to think things out best when I was weeding my flower bed. Maybe it was because I finally had peace and quiet (the kids were young then) or maybe it was the monotony, but it worked. I like your block; good border choice too. My overall week is really a 0 too. I bought and used a yard of fabric. My other numbers come from unpacking fabric.
