Ideas Into Form Intro

I love ideas. I love that they flow freely to me, hang out, talk to me, challenge me and help me learn and grow. Ideas create endless possibilities.
I have lots of ideas. I keep a notebook with lists, narratives, sketches, pictures and references. I have an accordion folder that holds the same. I have more ideas than I could ever use in a lifetime.
In knowing that, I realize that if I ever want to get those ideas into form, I need to start now.
And this is where I stumble. I have no idea how to do this. There are many quilting books that show you how to turn a photo into a quilt or design quilts with traditional blocks. In most cases, I don’t have a photo. I have ideas. Some ideas revolve around a concept, others include objects. But the only picture I have is the one in my mind, and with the concept ideas I don’t even have that.
I plan to move forward trusting that the journey itself will show me the way.
I thought it would be fun to share that journey, missteps and all. Maybe other people can learn from my trials and mistakes, and maybe you can share what you’ve learned along the way through comments. My readers are a wealth of information, and creative people love to share ideas.
I hope you’ll follow along. I expect to cover a lot of ground as I go. My projects are likely to include surface design (dye, paint, crayon), embroidery, interesting fabrics and other handwork techniques (embellishments, beads, etc).
In the next post, I’ll talk about how I decided on my first project.
