Let’s Talk Plans 2023

I don’t usually do a plans post, but I definitely have them and decided to share. I’ve enjoyed seeing other people’s plans. They help motivate me to focus on what’s important to me creatively.

For better or worse, here’s the list.

Sewing Plans:

4 original quilts

2 garments

1 charity quilt

Stitching Plans:

Finish stitching 2 pieces

Fully finish 3 pieces (Frame, turn into a pillow, mount, etc.)

That’s an ambitious list for me based on how much I usually finish in a year.

Projects will fit into categories based on how I think about them. For example, the pinwheel quilt is an original design (no pattern). I picked the block components up off the charity table at Guild. The quilt was always intended as a charity quilt, and that’s how I think of it. When I finish it, it will be a charity quilt finish.

There is similar overlap with my UFOs, but once it hits the UFO list it stays in that category.

I’m also flexible on the numbers. If I decide to finish one of my queen size UFOs, many other projects will not get attention.

We’ll see how the year goes.

For a different take on a plans list, check out the most recent episode of Two Tall Stitchers. If you follow Sunday Stash, you’ll recognize Jen. She came up with a system that is flexible enough to accommodate any and all creative outlets.

I’m excited to get some finishes logged. I think this will be a good year.

Your list reminds me of some of my reading challenges, books can overlap to multiple challenges. I love your list and how you are gentle with yourself. Thank you sharing the link. I’m going to watch it now. Hugs to you!

    • I actually met Jen and her mom back in 2021 purely by accident. We just happened to be in the same place at the same time for totally different reasons. I love the relationship they have and how they share the same creative outlets. It’s one of my favorite YouTube channels.

As a former project manager I can assure you plans are always meant to be working documents which are updated as more information comes to light. I look forward to seeing your work 🙂

  5. Great plans for the year and thanks for sharing a link to our video. I always enjoy the planning process even if not all the plans work out as I thought they would.
