A Loss and an Opportunity

A new family member came to live with us yesterday.

He’s an eight month-old Shepard mix named either Skippy or Sparky.  We can’t decide which.  I liked Ranger for a name, but the guys not so much.

Our border collie was killed late Sunday night in an unfortunate accident involving a deer and a vehicle.  The guys were inconsolable and still mourn his passing.  I’m more of a cat person myself, but it’s still hard to believe that Rusty’s gone.

Our new dog came from the Toledo Humane Society.  They found him abandoned in an apartment, which means the owners moved and left him behind.  It’s the kind of story they show on Animal Cops.  He’s a little on the thin side, but other than that he came through it just fine.

As an aside, please remember your local Humane Society when you decide to get rid of old towels and linens.  People were dropping off donations of food, cat litter, blankets and animal beds when we were there.  In fact, the place was packed and they adopted out several animals that afternoon.  I know when I clean those things out of mom’s house, that’s where I’m taking them.

Anyway, we’re a little behind in our holiday preparations here, but we did give a puppy the best Christmas present ever.

Sorry to hear about your dog – it is so hard to lose a pet. Looks like you’ve got a good addition to the family!

I’m laughing at the name–I have to vote for Skippy because Sparky is my husband’s nickname (because of his red hair) 🙂 Or how ’bout Spunky? Sorta in between! Have a Merry Christmas!

Good for you! All three of my cats were rescue cats but not from an organization. They just kind of showed up in one place or another and found their way to us. The last one was on it’s way out from starvation (also left behind when someone moved we think)but we decided to take her in. I just finished a book where they couldn’t decide what to name their cat and decided to name it both names. Oreo Figaro. How about Skippy spark! Or Sparky skip? HA. Every pet I have ever had has been named a people name. I wonder why?

So sorry to hear about your loss. The new pup looks like a champ, though. Lots of ear scritches and extra pats on the head to him! 🙂
