If you sew, you have scraps.
I have quite a few and they take up a chunk of prime storage space in my sewing room.
They are stored in various size and shape containers, some rigid and others soft. For the most part, the contents of those containers are a jumbled mess.

The scraps would take a lot less space if they were ironed and stored flat. I can see it would work better to have shallow bins the size of the shelf (aren’t photos eye opening?). If anyone knows where I can get something like that, leave me a comment.
There are things to keep in mind when dealing with scraps. The first rule is if you are going to save them, you need to use them. The second rule is that you need to keep them in a way that makes them usable for you.
There are a lot of scrap systems ranging from simple to complex. Bonnie Hunter has an elaborate system. Pat Sloan only keeps 2.5” squares. There are several others in between.
I struggled with the idea of a system for a long time. I use my scraps constantly, but I am not a traditional quilter. I decided that the best method for me is to leave the scraps whatever size and shape they are. That way I can use them however I want.
Next time we’ll look at how I use my scraps.
Great advice! I agree that if you are going to save them, you need to use them.
I found some great bins for my scrap strips. It’s made it so much easier for me to use them. Hope you find a solution that works for you.
Thanks! Several people made suggestions.
Scraps are my favorite! I keep most of mine sorted by color in plastic shoebox bins.
Mine too! The plastic shoeboxes are a popular choice. I know I have quite a few of them. Looks like there is some repurposing in my future.
I like keeping mine in strip sizes. One definitely needs to have a system that they will use! 🙂
Inquirying minds want to know…….do you use them?
Amazingly enough…I do! Ha, ha! 🙂
I use some plastic bins from Target. They are flat, stackable, and inexpensive. They hold much more than one realizes. Good Luck!
Thanks! I think I will end up with a combo of plastic shoe boxes and containers that are a bit larger and flatter.
ooops! You can find them by searching: 2 pack large storage trays white – brightroom
